(*) US ( WASHINGTON ) - An American reporter abducted and held captive for nearly 2 years by an al-Qaida-linked militant group in Syria was freed Sunday, less than a week later the barbaric beheading of American reporter James Foley by  militants group.
The released American is 45-year-old Peter Theo Curtis, who address beneath the byline Theo Padnos.
White House national security adviser Susan Rice informed Curtis is now secure outskirts of Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry disclosed Curtis was picked up by Jabhat al-Nusra, also popular as the Nusra Front, an al-Qaida-allied group combating the govt of Syrian President Bashar Assad.


Theo Curtis was not believed to be among the prisoners grasped by the Islamic State militant group that beheaded James Foley. Islamic State was properly rejected by al-Qaida previous this year after being suspect too brutal.
US President Barack Obama, who was enclose up a holiday in Massachusetts, was updated Sunday morning on Curtis' discharge.

"The president shares in the comfort and relax that we all feel now that Theo curtis is outskirts of Syria and secure," added White House spokesman Eric Schultz. "But we advance to hold in our thoughts and prayers the Americans who continue in abduction in Syria, and we will remain to utilise all of the means at our clearance to see that the remaining American prisoners are released."
A senior administration authority informed Theo Curtis was freed in the Golan Heights, where he was greet by US government personnel who were delivering him to Tel Aviv. The authoritative was not approved to speak by name and take up the delivery on the situation of obscurity.

In a footage retrieved by The Associated Press and dated July 18, 2014, Theo Curtis sits cross-legged on a floor with his hands constrained, and shows to read from a sheet displayed in front of him on the floor. Referring the US and European govts, he appeals for them to contact a named mediator before it is too late.
"They have offered me 3 days to live," he says as a man grabbing an assault rifle and attired in camouflage stands besides to him. "If you don't do anything, I'm over. I'm dead. They will kill me. 3 days. You have had 20 days, and you've done nothing. 
He does not mention any ransom, only ordered Western govt's to make contact with the mediator.
It was not known which, if any, of the imprisoner' requirements were met.


The energy-rich Gulf nation of Qatar, which is a chief ally of the Syrian rebels combating to remove President Bashar Assad, has been included in resolving prisoner releases in Syria over the last year.
In March, the Qataris aided to compromise the discharge of more than a dozen Greek Orthodox nuns picked up by the Nusra Front. Late last year, Qatar also backed mediator a agreement that saw 9 Lebanese pilgrims captured in Syria by rebels go release in swap for the discharge of 2 Turkish pilots captured prisoner in Lebanon.
